Pocophone F1 and Fitbit Charge 3 - how to get notifications working

How to get Fitbit and Pocophone F1 notifications working Latest :Update 24/May/2019

So the Pocophone has been now working flawlessly with the Fitbit and Notifications there have even been a couple of updates on both the Pocophone and Fitbit device and app.

  • MIUI: 10.3.4.0 (Stable)
  • Fitbit App: 2.94
  • Quick Apps 1.4.1.0
  • Fitbit Charge 3 SW: 28.20001.60.39

Under 'Settings'/ 'Manage Apps'/ 'Fitbit App'/

  1. 'Other permissions' set to allow 'Home screen shortcuts' - I also allowed it to 'Show on Lock Screen'
  2. 'Battery saver' then set it to 'Battery saver (recommended)', If you continue to have issues set it to 'No Restrictions'
  3. Under 'Other permissions' allow 'Show on Lock Screen' - I also allowed it to 'Home screen shortcuts'
  4. Under 'Auto Start' Set this to 'On'
  5. 'Lock Background Apps' Set Fitbit app to Padlock, todo this, press the square button (recents) Then press and hold the Fitbit app and press the padlock. Doing this seems to mitigate the issues of the Fitbit app and having battery saver switched on.

I now need to see if it is more power efficient to have ''Battery saver (recommended)' with the background app locked to have it just set to no restrictions.

** Please note that going in to the 'Security' app and hitting battery save will turn off the auto start killing notifications so be aware of this when hitting the battery save / battery optimisation. You will need :
1) Reactivate the 'Auto Start' and set it to on.
2) Go back into : 'Other permissions' and turn off and back on 'Home screen shortcuts' and 'Show on Lock Screen' - this will jolt notifications back into life and get rid of the Fitbit warning saying notifications disabled.

Using battery save turns auto start off

For detailed screenshots of each setting please see below, if you have any questions or notice anything let me know in the comments below.

How to get Fitbit and Pocophone F1 notifications working: 23/April/2019

After further investigating the sync issues it seems like they are resolved if you do the following:

Under 'Settings'/ 'Manage Apps'/ 'Fitbit App'/

  1. 'Other permissions' set to allow 'Show on Lock Screen' - I also allowed it to 'Home screen shortcuts'
  2. 'Battery saver' then set it to 'Battery saver (recommended)', If you continue to have issues set it to 'No Restrictions'

For completeness this worked with the following versions (Latest at time of post):

  • MIUI: 10.3.4.0 (Stable)
  • Fitbit App: 2.91
  • Quick Apps 1.4.0.4
  • Fitbit Charge 3 SW: 28.20001.49.45

Did this solution work for you if so leave a comment at the bottom.

To see the investigation with more details on how I solved the issue initially please see below

Update 12/04/2019

So with a couple of updates on the Pocophone Notifications stopped working even with following the above steps. After searching around I applied the following setting and notifications are now working again.

Essentially I just started applying permissions until it started working. So you get to this my going to 'Manage apps' Going into the Fitbit app

Battery saver - No restrictions

Under 'Other permissions' allow 'Show on Lock Screen' - I also allowed it to 'Home screen shortcuts'

Finally under 'Auto Start'

'Lock Background Apps' Set the Fitbit app to Padlock, todo this, press the square button (recents) Then press and hold the Fitbit app and press the padlock. Doing this seems to mitigate the issues of the Fitbit app and having battery saver switched on.

Fine tuning

Right so I have been able to dial it back, a bit . Having a play with the settings - disabling 'Show on Lock screen' caused the notifications + the warning to appear so right now it seems like all you need todo is leave that enabled and you should be good, this link also backs this finding up

Depending on how your device is set up with battery saving, it may also kill the Fitbit Notifications but at the moment having it set on 'Battery saver (Recommended)' seems to be fine

Update 22/March/2019

Right so this is only a quick post - I have had the Fitbit charge 3 for the last 6 months or so... there are numerous complaints when it comes to the Pocophone and Fitbit. Fitbit have the stance that the Pocophone is not supported ... :/ : https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=pocophone+and+fitbit&oq=pocophone+and+fitbit&aqs=chrome..69i57.3812j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

When I first connected them up they would work fine but notifications would not work, the Fitbit app would advise you restart the phone but to no avail.

Now with the last Fitbit app update the phone would no longer sync with the Fitbit at all how annoying I tried reinstalling the app, changing permissions , restarting both devices etc but to no avail.

Anyway in the end I got it both syncing and notifications working, to get it working I did the following.

How to get Fitbit and Pocophone F1 working

  1. Uninstall the updates on the system app 'Quick apps' and then do not allow it to update.
  2. Uninstall the Fitbit app.
  3. Restart the phone
  4. Now 'factory reset' the Fitbit.
  5. Reinstall the Fitbit app
  6. Pair the Fitbit up again and everything should work fine.
  7. Now you can update 'Quick Apps' and everything should continue to work.

For completeness this worked with the following versions (Latest at time of post):

  • MIUI: 10.2.3.0 (Stable)
  • Fitbit App: 2.90
  • Quick Apps 1.4.0.1
  • Fitbit Charge 3 SW: 20.20001.4.9.45
